Israel Update

"O our God, will you not judge them? We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you." 2 Chron 20:12

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 3,323 TO PEOPLE OF ISRAEL:   It was Pharaoh whose mention of the “People of Israel” is the first such Biblical reference, 3323 years ago, using calculations based on information in the Torah. Serbian-born, Eliezer Shulman, recently showed how he was able to calculate it as follows: In the first chapter of Exodus verse eight states, "And there rose up a new pharaoh over Egypt who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people. ‘Behold, the people of the children of Israel and more numerous and strong than we are.'” Until then, the Bible referred to Jews as the Children of Yaakov (Jacob), who at one point was also named Israel. Yaakov left the famine stricken Land of Israel with 11 sons to join his long-lost son Joseph. He had became the most powerful man in Egypt under Pharaoh after having been sold by his brothers and undergoing severe hardships that did not dampen his faith in the Creator. The Passover holiday recalls the days of slavery in Egypt under the new pharaoh and the Exodus to freedom, which is the theme of the traditional Passover Seder. However, the freedom of the Jews also marks their birthday as a people. Shulman calculated the dates in the Bible. Starting with the Creation as year One on the Jewish calendar and adding up the number of years the earlier generations lived, Shulman determined that Noah was born in the year 1056 and died in 2006. The Jewish forefather Abraham was born in the year 1948, and100 years later, Yitzchak (Isaac) was born. After calculating the years of Yitzchak's son Yaakov (Jacob) and the sale of his son Joseph by his brothers to Egypt, Shulman concluded Joseph died in the year 2309. Yaakov and all of his family “went down” to Egypt in the year 2238, and the People of Israel left in the Exodus in the year 2448. Passover in 2011 falls in the year 5771 on the Jewish calendar. QUARTET MAY RECOGNIZE PALESTINIAN STATE:  American and European diplomats warned that if PM Benjamin Netanyahu fails to present a new peace initiative soon, the Quartet which includes the United State, Russia, The European Union and the United Nations may be compelled to recognize a Palestinian State within the 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as its capital, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday. Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians were renewed last September, but stopped shortly afterwards, following the resumption of construction in the settlements after a government-imposed 10-months freeze. (Ynet) It is crucial to review what the Palestinians claim for their future state: Some 300,000 Israelis live in the 121 officially-recognized settlements in the West Bank, a further 190,000 Israelis live in settlements in East Jerusalem. The three largest settlements, Modi'in Illit, Maale Adumim and Betar Illit, are cities with over 30,000 residents each. These decades-old Jewish communities include homes, schools, government buildings, shopping centers and thriving business. They are not a collection of tents and huts in the wilderness of little value to the Jewish state. The Obama administration and the Palestinian Authority continue to pressure Israel to forgo even natural growth construction to meet the need for additional schools, medical facilities, apartments, and shops within its own long established communities. The reason for this is to accommodate Palestinian hopes and demands that Israelis will eventually agree to walk away from these thriving towns and neighborhoods and turn them over to their enemies. Meanwhile, nothing is demanded by the US government of the Palestinians on behalf of Israel. Pray for Israeli leaders to continually stand strong against foreign manipulation and for the Good News of G-d’s peace plan to penetrate the Middle East.

BOY HURT IN GAZA ROCKET ATTACK ON ISRAEL SCHOOL BUS DIES: : Daniel Viflic, 16, who was critically wounded when Palestinians in Gaza fired a rocket at an Israeli school bus earlier this month, died at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba on Sunday. (Ha’aretz) Our hearts go out to the family and friends of this young man who died in another heartless terrorist attack. Pray for the comforting of all who knew and loved him.

ITAMAR MURDERERS: “WE WOULD HAVE KILLED THE TWO OTHER CHILDREN BUT DIDN’T KNOW THEY WERE THERE”: On the night of March 11, Hakim Awad and Amjad Awad entered the Fogel residence where they stabbed Yoav and Elad in their beds, killing them both. They then entered the parents' bedroom where they attacked Ehud and Ruth Fogel. The parents fought back. Ruth was shot dead and Ehud died of stab wounds. The two men left the house, but then they heard three-month-old Hadas crying. "They went back into the house and stabbed the baby to death." Two other children were in the home, but were spared because the murderers did not know they were there. Amjad later told interrogators he would have killed them, too, had he known they were in the house. After returning to their village, "they received much support from family members and friends," a security source said. (J. Post) Continue to pray for the grieving families and for the orphans who have buried their parents. Pray for the murderers to be brought to justice.

WHO CAN I TRUST WITH MY DONATIONS?  Many people ask, "Where can I send my financial contributions and be sure they reach the people who need them most?"  As an employee of Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse, I have witnessed since 2006, food, clothing and household goods go out to the poor, often twice a week. Thousands of dollars of hospital equipment have been freely given to old age and care institutions that simply can't afford new beds or other medical necessities. School packs have been prepared annually for thousands of needy children. Additionally, when there have been catastrophes abroad, Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse are among the first to send necessary supplies to alleviate the distress. Your donations are needed and welcomed at  Make your online donations today. For residents in the UK and outside North America visit our website at   (Hannah)

PA OFFICIAL JUSTIFIES ITAMAR MURDERERS AND DEMANDS THEIR RELEASE:  In an interview this week, S'ad Nimr, Director General of the PA Ministry of Detainees & Ex-Detainees, justified the Itamar murders as an act of resistance against the occupation and included those who carried out the murders in the PA demand that all Palestinians being detained by Israel be released. (IMRA-YouTube) Pray G-d’s promise over Israel: “He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me.” Ps 18:17

UN: THOUSANDS OF LIBYANS STREAMING INTO SOUTH TUNISIA:  The UN refugee agency says thousands of Libyans are fleeing to southern Tunisia every day to escape worsening fighting in Libya's Western Mountains region. UNHCR spokesman Firas Kayal in Tunisia says some 10,000 people, many of them ethnic Berbers, have arrived in the Dehiba area of southern Tunisia in the last ten days. Kayal said Tuesday it was unclear how many more Libyans might try to escape the advance of Libyan government forces against towns such as Nalut. He says most of the Libyans are being put up by local communities and some hotels are even offering the refugees free lodgings for the time being. (AP)

SYRIAN GOVERNMENT WARNS SYRIANS NOT TO PROTEST:  The Syrian government is warning people not to take part in any protests. An Interior Ministry statement broadcast on Syrian Television on Tuesday says Syrian laws will be implemented to safeguard the people's security and the country's stability. It called on Syrians to "assist" authorities by refraining from taking part in any protests. The statement comes hours after security forces opened fire on hundreds of anti-government protesters staging a sit-in, shooting live ammunition and tear gas before chasing them through the streets for hours. Witnesses said at least one person was killed and many others wounded. (AP)

EGYPT ISLAMISTS DEFIANT OVER CHRISTIAN GOVERNOR: Protesters led by hardline Islamists in southern Egypt are holding their ground, saying they won't end their campaign of civil disobedience until the government removes a newly appointed Coptic Christian governor. The protesters, many from the ultraconservative Salafi trend of Islam, have sat on train tracks, taken over government buildings and blocked main roads in the southern city of Qena, insisting the new governor won't properly implement Islamic law. Attempts by the newly appointed interior minister, who comes from the same area, to defuse the crisis Monday were rebuffed and protesters insisted their sit-in, which began Friday, would continue. Barry Segal with the Editorial Staff

As international speakers and messengers of the Good News through music, Barry and Batya Segal are at the forefront of what God is doing in the present day nation of Israel. With strong ties in both the nations and Jerusalem, the Segals are weaving the deepest roots of our biblical heritage together with the fresh Spirit-filled worship of today to create their rich harmony of Scripture and song.

The Segals have a vast vision for God's purposes in the nations and to the people of Israel. In fact, their longing to help rebuild Israel both spiritually and physically inspired them to pioneer the non-profit charity organization, Vision for Israel and The Joseph Storehouse. This arm of their ministry focuses on assisting the poor and needy, widows and orphans, and reaching out to the new Jewish immigrants coming into the land of Israel. Vision 's most challenging project to date is "The Joseph StorehouseŽ", humanitarian aid center, located in the hills of Jerusalem. The Joseph Storehouse functions as a channel of blessing to all of Israel, Jewish and Arab, through the gathering and distribution of emergency medical supplies, food, clothing, and other basic life necessities.
