JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE November 14, 2010

“I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding His face from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my trust in Him.” Isa 8:17

RECORD NUMBER OF CHRISTIANS VISIT OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM: “October saw the greatest number of Christian tourists here for 30 years," said a hotel manager at Jaffa Gate. One guide predicted that a total of a million and a half Christians will have crowded down the Old City's narrow dark alleys in 2010. A similar zeal for tourism is seen throughout the country. Visitors to the state have risen 30% with a total of 3.2 million predicted for 2010. (Daily Alert)

CHILEAN MINERS ACCEPT INVITATION TO ISRAEL: The 33 Chilean miners who braved 69 days in the depths of the earth have accepted an invitation to visit Israel this Christmas. The miners and their spouses will come as a group next month as VIP guests of Israel’s Ministry of Tourism. When the miners were finally rescued from a collapsed mine 2,000 feet underground, many news outlets noted they were wearing shirts with the logo of the “Jesus Film Project,” a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International (CCCI). During the early days of the ordeal, CCCI officials were able to send audio versions of the Jesus Film Project and the Bible to the miners, who later said they listened to both repeatedly. Several of the miners also said they held daily prayer meetings and that their faith, whether it was preexisting or newly found due to the situation, was a strengthening and unifying factor during their long months in the depths of the earth. 8,000 ETHIOPIAN FALASH MURA TO MAKE ALIYAH TO ISRAEL: Almost 8,000 people from the Falash Mura community in Ethiopia will immigrate to Israel in the next four years, according to a decision that was confirmed in the Knesset on Sunday. “There are approximately 8,000 men, women and children who live under very difficult humanitarian conditions,” PM Netanyahu said during a government meeting. He went on to say that the Government of Israel seeks to resolve this problem and to avoid the creation of additional refugee camps in Ethiopia. "We have a moral commitment as Jews, as the People of Israel, to find a solution," he continued. (J.Post) “We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.” Ps 33:20

NETANYAHU DISCUSSES ISRAEL’S ECONOMIC SUCCESS: PM Netanyahu in a special interview with Fox Business Channel last week said Israel has “essentially become an export-driven, high-tech economy.” When asked to what factors the Jewish state attributes its economic success, the prime minister explained, “We were growing oranges and selling polished diamonds. Now we're selling the software on chips, and we're producing all sorts of innovations, technological innovations. Netanyahu also stressed that Israel has had a concentration of young people who went through the military and received a technological education which created the potential. He then added, “What we did was basically follow three things. We controlled spending. We cut tax rates and projected them in a very deliberate path into the future. And we removed obstacles to competition.” (INN) "This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.’” Zech 1:17

ISRAELI PRESS RECKONS OUTCOME ON NEW BUILDING FREEZE PROPOSAL: According to estimates by Arutz 7's Hebrew site, the government is unlikely to pass the renewed call for a building freeze in Judea and Samaria – but the move will miss by just a thread. According to the estimates, seven ministers would vote in favor of the new three month building freeze being demanded by the US, while eight ministers would vote against it. PM Netanyahu said Sunday that the US deal on extending the freeze – in which Israel would receive a security package and diplomatic guarantees – was “not complete yet.” Netanyahu said he would update the ministers on when the US offer would be “complete” and when presumably the cabinet would vote on it. (Arutz-7)

SETTLERS: NETANYAHU’S WORD WORTHLESS: The chairman of the Yesha Council called PM Netanyahu's plan to possibly accept a US proposal and impose a three-month construction moratorium in the West Bank a "surrender of those who demanded reciprocity." Naftali Bennett said on Sunday, "Three weeks ago Netanyahu told the world he would not extend the freeze even by one day unless the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Now – nothing. The whole world is assessing Netanyahu from Ahmadinejad to Abbas and Obama. If he folds now, his word will have zero value in the future." (Ynet) Continue to pray for Israel’s leaders to make wise decisions according to G-d’s prophetic plan for His nation and people.

MUSLIM PRAYER GROUP MEETS WEEKLY ON CAPITOL HILL: A conservative advocacy group on Friday called on the Justice Department to investigate a weekly prayer session on Capitol Hill that Muslims with terrorist ties have been participating in since the Sept.11 terrorist attacks. The American Center for Law and Justice issued the demand one day after it was revealed that notorious Al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was among the controversial figures who has attended the weekly Friday Jummah prayers hosted by the Congressional Muslims Staff Association during the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations. “It is unbelievable that the very terrorists who want to destroy America are permitted to meet in a congressionally sanctioned setting on Capitol Hill,” said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of American Center for Law and Justice. “This raises a host of significant questions – including concerns about national security.” (Fox News)

ISRAELIS IN DANGER OF AL-QAEDA ATTACK IN SINAI: Israel's National Security Council last Thursday issued a severe terror and kidnapping warning for Israelis traveling to Egypt and Sinai. The council called on all Israelis in Sinai to leave as soon as possible. Earlier, the Palestinian news agency Maan reported that Egyptian security forces arrested a cell of over 25 people suspected of planning to attack Israeli tourists in Sinai. (Ha’aretz) Pray for the exposure of all terrorist plots prior to their implementation.

SHARON MOVED TO RANCH FIRST TIME SINCE COMA: Ariel Sharon was moved to his ranch for the first time since he fell into a coma in January 2006. The former Israeli prime minister will remain over the weekend in his former home in the Negev desert. This week, he will return to the Tel Aviv hospital where he has been since he suffered a massive stroke while prime minister. He will return to the ranch in coming weekends to test the possibility of moving back to his home permanently. (JTA)
