“I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.” Ps 120:7

ABBAS OBSTRUCTING US PEACE EFFORTS: US Secretary of State John Kerry and PM Binyamin Netanyahu met in Jerusalem on Friday, their second meeting in 24 hours. The contents of the meeting were not disclosed, but the two agreed to meet for a third time late Saturday. Kerry is on his fifth trip to the region and is trying to get Israel and the Palestinian Authority back to the negotiating table. A political source said Thursday that, according to intelligence information, PA Chairman Abbas is willing to sit down with Netanyahu, but doesn't intend to go forward with talks. "He wants to talk, and then reintroduce Palestinian demands," the source added. An Israeli spokesperson said Kerry has explained to Abbas that he does not intend to cooperate with his preconditions. Kerry made it clear that if his efforts fail, he won't hesitate to hold Abbas responsible. Israel’s PM Netanyahu believes Abbas is interested in meeting with him only to foment a crisis that will enable him to shift responsibility to Israel and to resume his statehood bid at the UN. That is why Netanyahu is emphasizing that his goal is not simply to restart negotiations, but to attempt to resolve the issues at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Netanyahu has mapped out 21 issues to be discussed and wants negotiations led by professional teams, with weekly meetings. (Ha'aretz/Ynet) “They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace.” Jer 6:14

LIEBERMAN: ANOTHER ABBAS GESTURE OF DEFIANCE: MK Avigdor Lieberman said, Wednesday, that the recently-reported readiness by Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority to re-open direct talks with Israel was not a matter of peace talks. Lieberman said the strategy Abbas is preparing is one of "more defiance and incitement against Israel which will happen in the framework of the UN General Assembly in September." He added that at the center of the move Abbas is preparing will again be accusations against Israel that it does not want to achieve peace, one more hate speech and requests to be accepted into the various UN agencies, as well as an appeal to be received as a full member of the UN. Lieberman concluded, "To enable this process Abu-Mazen knows he should first make a few moves to make it look as if he wants peace and so that he will be able to blame Israel." Economics and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett, like Benny Begin and others in the last Netanyahu government, thinks nothing will come of the talks. He believes they will be no more than a game of guilt. Netanyahu is aware of this possibility, but Israel is in a position in which it can't say no to a meeting with Abbas. (INN) Pray against this deceptive, manipulative, and entirely illegal scheme on the part of the Palestinian Authority to gradually achieve statehood, via the UN, while sidestepping negotiations with Israel. Pray Israel’s leaders will stand strong against US pressures to bend to Palestinian Authority demands and preconditions.

PALESTINIAN TEXTBOOKS ERASE ISRAEL: A hearing at the Knesset this week revealed once again that Palestinian school textbooks deny the legitimacy of Israel, erase Jewish history in the region, and teach that true peace is not possible until the Jewish state disappears. Presenting his findings to the gathered lawmakers and foreign diplomats, Dr. Arnon Groiss, a recognized expert on tolerance in education, charged that "Israel is delegitimized and demonized in these texts and no peaceful solution to the Arab-Israel conflict is ever discussed." The textbooks in question are used currently in Palestinian schools funded and operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Financing for the schools and textbooks comes from the US, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Australia and other nations. One of the chief components of the original "Oslo" peace accords was that both sides would educate their respective populations for peaceful coexistence on the basis that both had a right to sovereignty in at least part of the land. The Palestinian side has not only failed to meet this obligation, but has been demonstrably going in the opposite direction, educating future generations to perpetuate the conflict with Israel. ELECTED ARAB MK CALLS FOR INTIFADA DURING KNESSET SPEECH: An elected Arab member of Knesset this week called for an Intifada (violent uprising) during the heated debate on a law which proposes solutions to pirate Bedouin settlements in the Negev. MK Afou Agbaria was one of several Arab MKs who got up to the podium to denounce the bill, because one section stipulates Bedouins who have no proof of ownership of the land on which they built their homes will need to relocate to alternative land, which will be given by the government. The plan, proposed by former Minister Benny Begin just before the last elections, will add more Bedouin settlements to the list of those that will receive official recognition, and increase the amount of land that will be handed over to Bedouins as part of an agreement. The Arab MKs, however, chose to ignore this. While most of the Arab MKs who spoke during the discussion chose to tear up a copy of the proposed bill, MK Agbaria took things one step further. As he spoke at the plenum, he said, “I am in favor of a new Intifada, because you are causing a new Nakba in the Negev.” Nakba, meaning catastrophe in Arabic, is the word described by Arabs to describe the founding of the Jewish State.  Responding to Agbaria, Deputy Finance Minister Mickey Levy said, "Shame on you, a member of Knesset calls for aggression against Israel? You’re calling to hurt the country in which you live?" MK Ahmed Tibi also turned to Levy and said, "It is not the right of Arabs in the south to rebel. It is their duty.” (Arutz-7)

A TROJAN HORSE IN OUR MIDST: Many of the Arab MKs who serve in Israel’s government, including MK Afou Agbaria mentioned in the above article, are notorious for their anti-Israel positions and actions. One of these MKs is Hanin Zoabi, who took part in the 2010 attempt to violate Israel’s naval blockade of Hamas. Zoabi was aboard the ship Mavi Marmara, where IDF soldiers who boarded were violently attacked. She reportedly knew of the planned attack in advance. Zoabi was later caught rubbing elbows with senior Hamas terrorists. She has also been criticized for anti-Israel speeches, including one in which she claimed “the Israeli occupation” was behind the murder of Israelis in Bulgaria. MK Ahmad Tibi in 2012 went to New York to be a part of the Palestinian Authority’s delegation to the UN when it presented its unilateral statehood bid. As well, Tibi praised PA “martyrs” (terrorists) at a ceremony sponsored by PA Chairman Abbas. Another Arab MK, Jamal Zahalka, several months ago denounced “Israeli apartheid” during a lecture in Canada, ignoring the fact that Arabs living in Israel enjoy the same equal rights as Jews. (INN)

ARAB MKs’ INCITEMENT HAS TO STOP: The Knesset must put a stop to unbridled anti-Israel incitement in its halls, MK Nissim Ze'ev said Wednesday in an impassioned speech from the Knesset podium. “The time has come to put a stop to the wild incitement that Members of Knesset voice here,” he declared. “They curse the state, attack the state, they insult it. ;Mr. Knesset Speaker,” he said, addressing MK Yuli Edelstein, “I am begging you, when a Member of Knesset gets up here and says, ‘you are criminals, you are thieves, you are cursed,’ when he reads a verse of the Quran with all of the curses – stop him!” Ze'ev said patience had gone too far. “They eat here, drink here, what don’t they do? Then they vomit all this excrement on us. Enough.” His angry reproach followed a stormy debate during which Arab MKs made a display of ascending to the Knesset podium and ripping up a proposed solution to the ongoing land dispute between Bedouin tribes in the Negev and the government. (Arutz-7) Pray that blatant enemy attacks from within Israel’s own government will be penalized and blocked.

POLL: MOST ISRAELI ARABS SUPPORT VIOLENT UPRISING: About 58% of the Arab citizens of Israel say the Palestinian Authority Arabs would be justified in starting a violent rebellion (“Intifada”) if the diplomatic process does not advance. A similar percentage advocates an “Intifada” by Israeli Arab citizens if their situation does not improve considerably, according to a poll, which was carried out by Prof. Sami Samoha of Haifa University. The poll also reveals that 63% of Israel's Arab citizens think Iran should continue its nuclear development, despite the evidence that Iran seeks Israel's destruction through nuclear weapons. About 54% of the Arabs prefer Israel over any other country as a place to live. And yet, 70% do not accept Israel's right to maintain a Jewish majority. (Arutz-7)

POPE FRANCIS: A TRUE CHRISTIAN CAN’T BE ANTISEMITIC: Pope Francis days ago condemned antisemitism during a meeting with representatives of the international Jewish community at the Vatican. “Because of our commons roots, a true Christian cannot be antisemitic,” Francis said at a meeting with a delegation of the International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC). He added that the Catholic Church “firmly condemns hatred, persecution and all manifestations of antisemitism.” While Francis has met with several Jewish leaders since becoming pope, his meeting earlier this month with the IJCIC was the first time he has spoken with an official group of representatives of Jewish organizations.
