ASSAD: ARAB WORLD PREPARED TO JOIN FIGHT AGAINST ISRAEL:
Syrian President Assad told Al-Manar TV on Thursday that there is
pressure by the people to open a new front on the Golan. “Even among the
Arab world there is a clear readiness to join the fight against
Israel,” he added in his interview with the Hizbullah TV station. Assad
stated that Hizbullah is involved in fighting the Israeli enemy and its
agents in Syria and Lebanon. Assad also said he sees the balance of
power in Syria shifting to the government’s side. (J.Post)

Anguish and sorrows have taken her like a woman in labor.” Jer 49:24
ISRAEL SPEAKS WITH RUSSIA AMID REPORTS OF S-300: Israel spoke with Russia on Thursday amidst reports Syrian President Assad’s forces had received a shipment of S-300 missiles from Moscow. The missiles have a 125 mile range with the capacity to hit planes in northern Israel. Syria’s obtaining such weapons would create a no-fly zone that would make it impossible for the Israeli air-force to operate along the Syrian and Lebanese border, precisely at a time when both countries are more volatile. On Thursday morning Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz met with Russian Ambassador to Israel Sergey Yakovlev and raised the issue of the S-300 missiles. Russia has maintained the missiles are defensive and are needed by Assad’s forces in their battle against rebel groups in that country. Steinitz on Wednesday said the missiles could also be used as offensive weapons. At the end of the meeting Israel and Russia agreed they would “maintain an ongoing dialogue and cooperate.” Earlier in the day, Netanyahu spoke of the dangers facing Israel from missile attacks from the Syrian, Lebanese and Gaza borders. "We are deep in the era of missiles that are aimed at civilian population areas,” Netanyahu said. “We must prepare defensively and offensively for the new era of warfare. The State of Israel is the most threatened state in the world. Around us are tens of thousands of missiles and rockets that could hit our home front,” Netanyahu said. (Arutz-7)
ASSAD MAY BE BLUFFING MISSILES, SAYS EXPERT: Syrian President Assad may have been bluffing Thursday morning when he confirmed his country had already received some of the Russian S-300 missile systems it had purchased, said a former top level Israeli government official. Retired ambassador Yossi Ben-Aharon a consultant on Middle Eastern affairs, said that anything President Assad says should be checked for veracity. "He is in dire straits. He is probably trying to set up some type of protective wall in case Israel sees a need to attack a shipment of armaments from Syria to the Hizbullah. He could be deliberately misleading," said Ben-Aharon. Meanwhile Friday, amid contradicting reports of whether or not Russian anti-aircraft missiles have already been delivered to Assad, the head of aircraft maker MiG said Russia was additionally counting on providing Syria with 10 MiG-29 fighter planes and was discussing details with a Syrian delegation. The report did not say when they might be delivered. (J.Post/INN)
ASSAD: NEXT TIME, WE’LL BOMB ISRAEL: Syrian President Assad on Thursday warned that his country would bomb Israel if it attacks Syria again. “The next time Israel attacks, we will have a strategic response; a bombing against a bombing.” Asked what kind of weapons would be used against the Jewish state, he said, “There are things that will be determined in the proper date and time. We have informed all of the elements that contacted us that in the next times we will respond.” Israel is believed to be behind several recent bombing attacks against Syrian weapons sites. Israel is concerned that amid the growing chaos in Syria, unconventional weapons will be transferred to Hizbullah or fall into the hands of rebel Islamists. It is also concerned Assad may try to unite the country by staging an attack against Israel. (INN) “Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap.” Isa 17:1
THOUSANDS OF HIZBULLAH TERRORISTS HELPING ASSAD: French FM Laurent Fabius, said Wednesday that thousands of Hizbullah members are fighting alongside the army of Syrian President Assad. The Minister made the announcement to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French government. He said between 3,000 and 4,000 Hizbullah fighters are helping the Assad regime. Assad has been fighting against Syrian rebels for the past two years in a civil-war that has left tens of thousands dead. The Hizbullah terrorist organization has repeatedly attacked Israel, most notably in the Second Lebanon War of 2006. (Arutz-7)
US NOTES MARKED RESURGENCE IN IRAN-SPONSORED TERROR: Iran-sponsored terrorism showed a “marked resurgence” last year, the State Department said in its annual report on terrorism. The report released Thursday named the Qods Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, its ministry of intelligence and Hizbullah, its ally in Lebanon, as behind the resurgence. “Iran and Hizbullah’s terrorist activity has reached a tempo unseen since the 1990s, with attacks plotted in Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa,” the report said. Israel was called a “stalwart counter-terrorism partner” in the report, which noted continuing rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip - an area controlled by Hamas, a State Department-designated terrorist group. DRONE KILLS TOP TALIBAN: A US drone strike killed the No. 2 commander of the Pakistani Taliban Thursday, dealing a major blow to the al Qaeda-linked terror group. Waliur Rehman had been a high-priority US target - with a $5 million bounty on his head - after waging cross-border attacks on Americans in Afghanistan. Rehman was regarded as the next leader of the ruthless Taliban-related group known as TTP. The White House said he was wanted in the 2009 killing of seven CIA employees by an al Qaeda member in a suicide bombing at a US base in Afghanistan. The attack was depicted in the movie “Zero Dark Thirty.” Pakistani intelligence sources said Rehman and as many as six Taliban fighters died when missiles from a US drone blew up their mud hideout in the town of Chasma. The border area is considered a terrorist stronghold and a launching pad for attacks on US and NATO forces in Afghanistan. (NY Post)
ANTISEMITISM IS BECOMING FASHIONABLE AGAIN: Addressing the Israel Foreign Ministry's "Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism" in Jerusalem on Tuesday, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said: Three arguments are put forward by the antisemites all the time, and they are false all the time. The first is that Israel is guilty of war crimes. We, who fight war criminals with measured means, whose cities are attacked by terrorists who fire from built-up areas and try to pinpoint the rocketeers - we are accused of war crimes by the war criminals. The second is we are expansionists, we don't want peace, we never agree to compromise. That's patently false. The State of Israel repeatedly has made concessions for peace that no other people or state has made in history. I don't know of any other case in which the victor made concessions in order to achieve peace, but we've done it again and again. The third argument is that we are violators of human rights. Israel is the one country in the region that recognizes the rights of everyone - women, minorities, every individual - who have access to the best court system in the world. Israel has a free press and a vibrant democracy, and Israel is accused of violating human rights. This is when in our neighborhood hundreds of people are massacred daily in neighboring regimes, said Netanyahu. The prime minister further explained there are two myths about antisemitism. The first was that after the Holocaust antisemitism would disappear. And the second was that with the creation of the Jewish state, antisemitism would disappear. “That didn't happen. In fact, the antisemites took a respite after the Holocaust, but that's all it was. It was a brief intermission. And what was unfashionable is now becoming fashionable again. After the rise of Israel, what is fashionable today is to say, ‘Well, I don't hate Jews, I just don't think they should have a state.’ There is only one remedy for the slander, and that's the truth. And I encourage you to fight and win the battle of truth,” Netanyahu said. (Arutz-7)
NORWEGIAN CARTOON DEPICTS CIRCUMCISION AS A DEMONIC RITUAL: The European Jewish Congress is “considering taking legal action" over a cartoon in one of Norway’s leading papers, which depicted circumcision in a blood-thirsty-demonic manner. “This cartoon has crossed all lines of decency and is dripping with hate and antisemitism,” said Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the European Jewish Congress. The cartoon depicts a child being stabbed in the head by a Jewish religious figure with a devil’s pitchfork while some unseen figure is cutting off a toe with a mother carrying what appears to be a religious book dripping in blood. This cartoon has ticked off one by one all the major historical antisemitic motifs, the type of which incited attacks and even the mass murder of Jews in the past,” Kantor said. “This type of hate, reminiscent of Nazi propaganda, cannot be left unanswered.” (INN) Pray against the rising tide of antisemitism on all levels in Norway.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION WARNS OF NEW KILLER BUG: A deadly new virus that has killed more than half the people who catch it is now a global threat, the head of the World Health Organization warned this week. The highly contagious disease that attacks the respiratory system has spread from the Mideast to Britain, Germany, France and Pakistan. “We do not know where the virus hides in nature. We do not know how people are getting infected,” WHO general director Margaret Chan said in Geneva this week. “Until we answer these questions, we are empty-handed when it comes to prevention,” she added. Authorities said the virus is similar to SARS which triggered an epidemic that killed more than 800 people in 2003. The new disease, called MERS-CoV, for Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, has killed 30 out of 50 people infected. (AP) Pray scientists and physicians will quickly be able to find methods to heal those who have been hit with MERS and to prevent this deadly new virus from spreading.
