ISRAEL CONDUCTS AIRSTRIKE INSIDE SYRIA: Israel launched an airstrike inside Syria overnight Tuesday near the border with Lebanon, according to US and regional officials. The site targeted by Israel manufactured chemical and biological weapons, according to a report in Iraqi newspaper Azzaman. The newspaper quoted Western diplomats who are close to the regime of Bashar Assad. It says the classified installation, which is located just seven miles from the presidential palace, was guarded by a large contingent of Iranian Revolutionary Guards, many of whom died in the attack. A diplomatic source said the attack took place 48 hours before it was first reported. He said initial reports regarding a convoy that was attacked were meant to disguise the true target of the assault. However, the newspaper reported, some trucks were also destroyed in the operation. The diplomatic source said Israeli F-16 jets carried out two maneuvers over the installation, firing at least eight guided missiles at it as well as at least one bunker busting bomb. The installation was badly damaged and there were numerous casualties. He said about 3,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards were stationed at the installation, as well as several Russian experts. (Arutz-7) Pray Israel will keep the upper hand in this volatile situation boiling over from the Syrian crisis. May political, military and intelligence officials be given the necessary strategy to completely demolish the threat of chemical and other weapons of mass destruction that could shortly be aimed at the Jewish state.

SYRIA, IRAN THREATEN RETALIATION AGAINST ISRAEL: Syria and Iran issued threats to retaliate against Israel for its strike on a chemical weapons facility near Damascus Tuesday night. In Iran, FM Hossein Amir Abdollahian said Thursday the raid on Syria will have significant implications for Israel. He called upon UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to take operative steps against Israel following the attack, and suggested to the Israeli leadership "not to place too much trust on the Patriot batteries that are stationed in the area." Syria is issuing even more explicit threats. Syria's Ambassador in Lebanon, Ali Abdul-Karim Ali, told a Hizbullah news website that Damascus "has the option and the capacity to surprise in retaliation." He said the authorized elements will take care of preparations for it. Hizbullah said it "expresses full solidarity with Syria’s command, army and people." Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated that whatever Israel’s motives, the "attack is not justified." Iran's foreign minister on Thursday condemned what he termed Israel's "brutal aggression" against Syria. Iran is Syria's principal ally, along with Russia and China. (Arutz-7)

SYRIAN REBELS ‘STEAL’ CREDIT FROM ISRAEL FOR SYRIA ATTACK: While Russia, Hizbullah, Syria and Lebanon condemned Israel and threatened retaliation over the attack early Wednesday on a convoy carrying Russian-made SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles, and its assault against a military center, Syrian rebels said they were condemning and threatening the wrong guys. It wasn't Israel that bombed the convoy, the rebels said. Instead, the credit belongs to them. "The attack was carried out by the Sheikh Ahmed Yassin special forces unit, together with the A-Sham Martyrs Brigades. They destroyed the science center at Jumharriya, on the outskirts of Damascus." According to the rebels, they fired six 120mm rockets and destroyed a large part of the building, which they said was a center of chemical weapons research. The statement added that the building had housed research teams from Russia and Iran, along with large numbers of Hizbullah terrorists. (Arutz-7) No doubt this development somewhat confuses the issue for Syria, Iran and Hizbullah, in terms of where to aim the big guns of retaliation. "He who sits in the heavens laughs…." Ps 2:4

US WARNS SYRIA NOT TO TRANSFER WEAPONS TO HIZBULLAH TERRORISTS: The White House on Thursday warned Syria not to transfer weapons to Hizbullah, as tensions mounted following reported Israeli raids on a military research center and a weapons convoy. "Syria should not further destabilize the region by transferring weaponry to Hizbullah," said Ben Rhodes, a US deputy national security advisor. The New York Times reported Thursday that Israel informed the US about the attack on a convoy that was transporting SA-17 antiaircraft weapons to Hizbullah. Should these weapons reach the Shiite terror group, they could cut into Israel's ability to fly reconnaissance flights over Lebanon. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed "grave concern" on Thursday over reports that Israeli jets bombed a convoy near the Lebanese border, apparently hitting weapons destined for Lebanese terrorist group Hizbullah. "The Secretary-General calls on all concerned to prevent tensions or their escalation and to strictly abide by international law. (J.Post/Ynet)

REPORT: HIZBULLAH ALREADY HAS SYRIAN CHEMICAL WEAPONS: As reports and analyses of what was said to be an Israeli attack on advanced Russian missiles dispatched from Syria to Hizbullah terrorist bases along the border with Lebanon, Syrian rebels said Hizbullah had already received numerous advanced weapons from Syria – including chemical weapons. A report in a Saudi newspaper quoted rebel groups as saying Syria had last year transferred chemical weapons to Hizbullah. Israel has warned that the transfer of such arms would be a "red line" which Jerusalem could not ignore, essentially a declaration of war by Syria and Hizbullah against Israel. The Saudi press report quoted a rebel spokesperson as saying the shift took place over a 40 day period in February and March 2012. The shipment included at least two tons of mustard gas along with long range missiles capable of carrying weapons that could reach at least 185 miles into Israel. (INN)

HIGH DEMAND FOR GAS MASKS FOLLOWING SYRIA WMD REPORTS: Following reports of a possible influx of Syrian chemical weapons to Lebanon, Israel Postal Service has announced an increase of gas mask demand among Israeli citizens. Weekly distribution of gas mask kits stands at 1,400 units, and this week demand has been for 4,000. Some 4.7 million kits have been distributed so far across Israel. (INN)

MORSI AIDE SAYS US CONTRIVED THE HOLOCAUST: "The myth of the Holocaust is an industry that America invented," claims Fathi Shihab-Eddim, a senior figure close to Egyptian President Morsi who is now responsible for appointing the editors of all state-run Egyptian newspapers. "US intelligence agencies in cooperation with their counterparts in allied nations during World War II cooked-up the myth of the Holocaust to destroy the image of their opponents in Germany, and to justify massive destruction against military and civilian facilities of the Axis powers," he said. Fathi further claimed the six million Jews who were killed by Nazis simply moved to the US. These outrageous statements came as the world marked Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27. The Israel Director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center said: "The sad truth is these views are relatively common in the Arab world and are the result of ignorance on one hand and of government-sponsored Holocaust denial on the other hand." Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Egyptian Defense Minister Gen. Abdel Fatah al-Sisi warned that Egypt could be facing collapse. "The continuing conflict between political forces and their differences concerning the management of the country could lead to a collapse of the state and threaten future generations," Al-Sisi said in a speech. Sisi said the country's economic, political and social challenges signify "a real threat to the security of Egypt and the cohesiveness of the Egyptian state." (Fox News) "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse." Gen 12:3. Any Biblical cause and effect principles taking place in this week’s news updates from Egypt? Pray that widespread use of the Internet, even in Muslim dominated areas, will help combat blatant lies being furthered by Islamist enemies of Israel and the West.

SHIMON PERES TO ASK NETANYAHU TO FORM ISRAEL’S NEXT GOVERNMENT: Israel's President, Shimon Peres, decided on Thursday to ask current PM Benjamin Netanyahu to set up Israel's next government. Peres is expected to make the official announcement on Saturday evening. On Wednesday and Thursday, Peres conducted consultations with the various parties elected to the next Knesset. Out of 120 Knesset members, 82 recommended to the president that Netanyahu lead the next government. These included the members of Likud-Beiteinu, Yesh Atid, Habayit Hayehudi, Shas, United Torah Judaism and Kadima. The rest of the lawmakers did not recommend anyone to head the new government.
