Israel Update

JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE
October 12, 2012

"This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day,
who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar -
the Lord Almighty is his name: ‘Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,
will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me.’” Jer 31: 35-36

BLACK FAITH LEADERS PLAN MILLION DOLLAR EFFORT AGAINST SAME-SEX MARRIAGE: A group of African-American faith leaders plan to spend $1 million on an effort to strip President Barack Obama of 25% of the black vote that he garnered in 2008. The new nonprofit group, God Said, announced the campaign on Tuesday, saying it was offended with Obama’s support of same-sex marriage. The president won 95% of the black vote in 2008. “The black community is among the most religious in America, and we are offended that President Obama has announced his support of same-sex marriage, that the NAACP has blindly supported the secular views of the Democratic Party, and that their national platform plainly supports same-sex marriage,” a God Said founder, said. “I am confident this message will be well received and acted upon on Election Day.” (Newsmax)

HUGE INTERNATIONAL SPACE CONFERENCE TO CONVENE IN JERUSALEM: The International Space Conference will be held in Israel in 2015 and will be one of the largest conferences in Israel in years. The venue was chosen at last week’s annual conference of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), held in Naples, Italy. The conference is the world’s most important gathering on space. The annual space federation event is held every October, each time in a different country. Some 3,000 space scientists, ISA officials and industrial leaders attend and learn about the latest innovations and discuss space policies. The IAF is the largest body in the world in the field of space and has 250 member organizations around the world. The event in Jerusalem will attract many tourists and offer 30 symposiums and 2,000 lectures by experts from 70 countries and also include a huge space exhibition. (J.Post)

NEW TYPE OF WHEAT NAMED FOR TERROR VICTIM: A new strain of wheat developed in Israel has been named for Kinneret Mandel, who was murdered seven years ago at the age of 23. Kinneret, her 21-year-old cousin Matat Adler, and 15-year-old Oz Ben-Meir were slain by Palestinian Authority terrorists as they stood at a hitchhiking stop in Gush Etzion. Kinneret's father, Itamar Mandel, is in charge of field crops for the Har Hevron regional authority. When he was in mourning for Kinneret, a friend from a seed company came to comfort him. As he looked through family albums he saw a photo of Kinneret standing in the middle of a field of wheat and said to her father that the girl deserved to have a special strain of wheat named after her. “Kinneret’s life was cut short and we thought that wheat, one of the symbols of life, would be a very nice memorial for her,” her father said. The new strain, Kinneret Wheat, grows well in areas with harsh climates. It will soon be planted in different areas in Israel and the world. (INN)

IAF STRIKES TERROR CENTER IN GAZA: IAF aircraft struck a center of terrorist activity in northern Gaza on Wednesday night. The attack was a response to high trajectory fire into Israeli territory, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement. Earlier on Wednesday evening, terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza fired two rockets into southern Israel. No one was physically injured and no damage was caused to property. IDF officials laid the responsibility on the continued rocket attacks directly on Hamas. On Tuesday night, IAF aircraft hit a terror tunnel in northern Gaza, after terrorists fired three Kassam rockets at southern Israel. One rocket hit the city of Netivot, while the two others fell in open areas of the Negev. Miraculously, no physical injuries or damage were reported. (Arutz-7) Pray that continued miracles of protection will take place in the event of terrorist rocket fire aimed at Israel’s southern communities. Pray also for residents, and especially children in these targeted areas who suffer widespread psychological trauma and disruption of daily life.

IDF FACES NEW REALITY OF WAR ALONG PEACE BORDER WITH EGYPT: The IDF’s Sagi Brigade is training soldiers with tools to deal with new threats at the border with Egypt - a country now ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood. The area has increasingly become a target for Bedouin, al Qaeda, Hamas and Egyptian terrorists. The Sagi Brigade has begun implementing an advanced training regiment focusing on new combat techniques and maneuvers designed to help forces in the border region deal with the area's evolving reality. Recent cross-border attacks - along with a general trend of intensifying terror activity in the Sinai Peninsula - have necessitated that IDF forces in the border region learn to deal with an increasing terrorist threat. These developments have led to an increased IDF presence in the area around the Egyptian border, including the deployment of armored personnel carriers and a program to reinforce outposts and roads. AZERBAIJAN JAILS 22 IN IRAN-BACKED TERROR PLOT: A court in Azerbaijan has sentenced 22 people to lengthy jail terms for assisting Iran's Revolutionary Guards in terrorist plots against US and Israeli targets. Azerbaijani authorities said the Revolutionary Guards recruited Azeri citizen Niyazi Kerimov and gave him the job of assembling a group of other Azerbaijanis to act as spies. Targets for attacks were to include the US and Israeli embassies as well as Western-linked groups and companies. (AP) Recently, Middle Eastern and US officials linked Iranian-backed operatives to attempts to kill foreign diplomats in at least seven countries over a span of 13 months. In August 2012, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei instructed the Revolutionary Guards and Quds Force to increase their terror attacks due to what the Iranian government perceived as their interests being threatened by UN sanctions and the West's support of Syrian opposition. Pray that terrorist intentions and their instigators will continue to be exposed and brought to justice.

EMPOWERING MIDDLE EAST DOES NOT NECESSARILY CREATE DEMOCRACY: Former US Foreign Service Officer, Aaron Braunstein, said the concept of empowering residents of the Middle East is backfiring. He made the statements on Israel National Radio. "It's extremely important to understand President Barack Obama's mindset," Braunstein said. "He comes from a background as a community organizer working with disadvantaged groups in America, a democracy. If you empower these groups, it can only be for good. He transposed this mindset to the international arena and the Middle East. You cannot expect to empower people in un-democratic societies. The only ones who are really organized besides for the regimes themselves are the extremists. So by touting empowerment and claiming the setbacks are nothing but bumps on the road to freedom is ridiculous." Braunstein worked in Egypt, Tunisia, and Muslim West Africa for over 30 years as part of the US Foreign service. (INN)

ABORTION ADVOCACY HURTS OBAMA IN SWING STATES: President Obama's support for abortion and taxpayer funded birth control could kill his chances to win swing voters in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin and Florida, and possibly his reelection, according to a recent poll. Likely voters by a 49% to 25%, or two-to-one, say they are less likely to vote for Obama because he included taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare. A whopping 54% are less likely to back him due to his vote against a law to give equal medical treatment to babies born alive after a failed abortion. And 69% reject the administration's mandate that forces faith-based institutions to provide insurance that covers birth control. "This survey shows that a few straightforward, specific facts about President Obama and abortion shock the collective conscience of swing voters in battleground states," said pollster Kellyanne Conway. "His support for taxpayer-funded abortion, opposition to Born-Alive Infant protections and “intimidation through regulation” foisted upon religious organizations draws the ire of between one-half and two-thirds of the voters surveyed," she said. (Examiner) If no other issue compels G-d’s people in America to the polls in November this one must. Continue to pray for the November US elections and for righteous leaders to be placed at the helm of the nation.

ROMNEY SAYS ABORTION STANCE UNCHANGED, THAT HE REMAINS PRO-LIFE: Mitt Romney clarified Wednesday Oct 10 that he remains opposed to abortion and would take action if elected president to reduce the number of abortions that are performed in this country and around the world. “I've said time and again that I'm a pro-life candidate. I'll be a pro-life president,” Romney told reporters Wednesday. “The actions I'll take immediately are to remove funding for Planned Parenthood. It will not be part of my budget. Romney has said in the past he would appoint Supreme Court justices who would hopefully overturn Roe vs. Wade and that he would be “delighted” to sign a bill banning abortion. (LA Times)
