Israel Update

“If you slack off on a day of distress, your strength is small indeed. Yes, rescue those being dragged off to death - won’t you save those about to be killed?
If you say, ‘We knew nothing about it,’ won’t he who weighs hearts discern it?
Yes, he who guards you will know it and repay each one as his deeds deserve.” Prov 24: 10-12

EXPERTS CONFIRM NETANYAHU'S D-DAY: IRANIAN BOMB NEXT YEAR: Experts have confirmed PM Binyamin Netanyahu’s warning that Iran can have enough enriched uranium next year to produce a nuclear bomb. Israel’s Prime Minister told the UN two weeks ago, "Ladies and gentlemen, I've been speaking about the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons for over 15 years. Iran is well into the second stage and by next spring it will have moved on to the final stage. From then it's just a few months or weeks until they have enough uranium to build a nuclear bomb." Any doubts of PM Netanyahu’s dire predictions were removed by experts at the Institute for Science and International Security. Their new report released Monday warns that Iran could produce enough weapons-grade uranium to make an atomic bomb within two to four months and then would need only an additional eight to 10 months to build the device. It concluded, “The most practical strategy to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is to prevent it from accumulating sufficient nuclear explosive material." The report offers estimates on uranium stockpiles and enrichment rates based on figures from inspections of Iran's program by the UN watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency. (INN) The Obama administration has consistently pressured Israel not carry out a military strike against Iran although the very existence of the Jewish state is being overtly threatened by Iran’s political and spiritual leaders, and its nuclear weapons development program moves full speed ahead despite heavy international sanctions. Obama is doing all in his power to stop the air strike now, stalling it until after the election.

IRANIAN OFFICIAL: ISRAEL’S DEATH TOLL TO BE NO LESS THAN 10,000 IF IT ATTACKS IRAN: A senior Iranian official this week said at least 10,000 Israelis would be killed in the event of an Israeli military strike on the Islamic Republic. “If the Israelis attack, Iran’s deterrent power would deal a mortal blow to them and the Israeli death toll would not be less than 10,000. Therefore, they would be stopped soon,” Mohsen Rezaei, former chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps was quoted as saying. “Of course the Zionists wouldn't dare invade Iran and only speak of war to win concessions from the next US president,” he added. US ARMY OFFICERS IN ISRAEL TO PREPARE FOR JOINT DRILL: US army officers have begun arriving in Israel ahead of joint military maneuvers between the countries' armed forces. The officers will supervise the arrival of hundreds of US troops on October 14 for military exercises that will take place the following week and last for three weeks. The US-Israeli drills are to be the most important yet between the two countries the report said. (Arutz-7) According to a Time Magazine assessment, the joint US-Israeli war games exercise was postponed several months ago to show Obama’s displeasure over Israel’s plans to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. And after being re-scheduled for this fall it has suddenly been scaled back, drastically. Instead of the approximately 5,000 US troops originally trumpeted for Austere Challenge 12, as the exercise is called, the Pentagon will send only 1,500 service members, and perhaps as few as 1,200, TIME reported.

DOZENS OF ROCKETS AND MORTARS HIT SOUTH: Residents in southern Israel spent the final day of the Feast of Tabernacles in bomb shelters as terrorist groups in Gaza fired some 55 rockets and mortar shells at communities in southern Israel on Monday. There were no reports of injuries, although two buildings were damaged and several animals were killed by an explosion at a kibbutz children’s zoo. In response, the IDF carried out three aerial strikes and one ground assault on Hamas terror hubs and rocket launching pads. A military official in the Southern Command disclosed he Hamas terrorist group was using sophisticated launchers capable of shooting several rockets at once. The launchers were remotely operated, allowing the terrorists to remain hidden from sight. Terrorist fire continued on Tuesday with two Qassam rockets exploding near Sderot and one in the town of Netivot. In both cases, the projectiles hit open areas and no injuries or damage was reported. (Times of Israel/Ynet) Pray this latest terrorist onslaught against Israel’s southern communities will be quickly controlled by Israel’s military forces. Pray for the protection of all civilians and IDF soldiers in the besieged areas.

IDF DEPLOYS PATRIOT DEFENSE BATTERY ON MT. CARMEL: The IDF has deployed a Patriot surface-to-air missile battery on Mt. Carmel near Haifa. The move came two days after an unidentified drone intruded into Israeli air space and flew over the northern Negev and southern West Bank, before being shot down by Israeli F-16I fighter jets. A major Israeli television channel said the deployment came due to the possibility that further attempts would be made to send drones into Israeli air space. The Patriot system can intercept medium-range ballistic missiles, planes, and is also believed to be capable of shooting down drones. The batteries are operated by the IDF's Air Defense Command. UAE: GULF MUST TACKLE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD THREAT: Gulf Arab countries should work together to stop Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood plotting to undermine governments in the region, the United Arab Emirates' foreign minister said on Monday. The UAE, a major oil exporter and business hub, has arrested 60 local Islamists this year, accusing them of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood - which is banned in the country - and conspiring to overthrow the government. Thanks to cradle-to-grave welfare systems, the UAE and other Gulf Arab monarchies have largely avoided the Arab Spring unrest that has unseated Muslim rulers elsewhere. But they fear the rise of the Brotherhood in Egypt and in other states could embolden dissent on their own turf. The Muslim Brotherhood organization, founded in Egypt in 1928, is seen as a mentor for Islamist groups in the region. It is also known as the father of all terrorist organizations. (J.Post) Continue to pray for recognition among nations of the savage danger of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist group - that pretends to be a civilized political entity. Pray the pervasive influence of this wolf in sheep’s clothing will quickly die out in the region.

FRANCE CRACKING DOWN ON ISLAMIST TERRORISM: France is cracking down on terror after a sting operation in connection with an attack on a Jewish supermarket left one dead and 11 arrested. French President Francois Hollande announced just prior to the start of the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah that France would take steps to “fight all terror threats.” The statement followed a "vast anti-terrorist operation" Saturday night in which police killed 33-year-old Jeremy-Lous Sidney during a raid and arrested 11 other suspects linked to a radical Islamist terrorist cell. Hollande gave no details on the organization, but said the group had “struck in the past” and officials believe it “could stage attacks in the coming weeks.” The detainees were in their 20s and 30s, according to a Paris prosecutor who said some were “common criminals who set out on a path of radicalization toward Islamist jihadism.” (Reuters)

ROMNEY’S MOMENTUM ENSURES A TIGHT RACE UNTIL THE END: New polling numbers released Tuesday show Mitt Romney's debate victory has brought him even, or in some cases, carried him past President Obama. The race is one of the closest in history. For the first time since last October - when a head-to-head Romney-Obama match up was simply hypothetical - Romney is leading Obama in the RealClear Politics average of national polls. The advantage is a slim 0.7 percentage point. Both the Obama and Romney campaigns said they expected the polls to shift and the race to tighten in the final weeks before Election Day. (USA Today) Your vote will make a difference: In 1845, Texas was admitted to the union as a state by one vote - that of Edward A. Hannigan from Indiana. In 1850 one vote additional, admitted California to the union. In 1919 one vote in the US Senate passed the resolution to amend the Constitution to say voting should not be withheld on the basis of sex. In 1941 one vote saved the Selective Service (the Draft) just weeks before Pearl Harbor was attacked. In 1948 one vote in a Texas convention elected Lyndon B. Johnson US Senator over ex-Governor Coke Stevens. These are only a few instances in which a single vote made a huge historical impact. Please make your voice heard a month from now in the 2012 US Presidential elections. Register now and encourage others to do so. Statesman and author Edmund Burke warned, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

US CAREER ARMY POLL: ROMNEY LEADS OBAMA 2:1: More than 3,000 American armed forces personnel polled by the Military Times favor Mitt Romney over President Barack Obama by a whopping 2-1 margin – because of the economy and not because of particular military issues. Poll results indicate about 66% of those surveyed support Romney, compared to about 26% who say they will vote to re-elect President Obama. The survey of 3,100 professional career men and women “rated the economy and the candidates’ character as their most important considerations and all but ignored the war in Afghanistan as an issue of concern.” The poll included active duty career personnel, National Guard and reserve members. It said the population is older than the regular military but “is representative of the professional core of the all-volunteer force.” (INN)

NETANYAHU CALLS FOR EARLY ISRAELI ELECTIONS CITING BUDGET: PM Benjamin Netanyahu this week said he is forced to call for elections early next year because the feuding partners in his coalition government would not accept the austerity budget plan he’s been circulating. Netanyahu, who has served twice as Israel’s premier, announced in a prime-time broadcast that he will head his own Likud party in parliamentary elections and bid for a third term. Netanyahu, 62, has been calling for deep cuts to stay within Israel’s targeted deficit and faced opposition from coalition members who are reluctant to reduce spending. Also, the prime minister said re-election would enable him to press for tougher action to stop Iran’s nuclear program. “We must make sure Iran doesn’t get a bomb,” Netanyahu said. According to a poll published by the Ha’aretz daily on Sept. 28, Netanyahu’s Likud party would win 28 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, one more than it currently holds, making it the largest faction in the 120-member Knesset. The survey showed 35% of Israelis see him as “most suited” to lead, almost double the 16% of his nearest contender for the premiership, Shelly Yacimovich of the Labor party. (Bloomberg)
