“I will defend my house against marauding forces. Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, for now I am keeping watch.” Zech 9:8

TERRORISTS KILL 16 EGYPTIAN SOLDIERS: Terrorist gunmen killed at least 16 Egyptian policemen and wounded seven in an assault on a police station at the border between Egypt and Israel on Sunday. They then seized two military vehicles and attempted to storm the border with the Jewish state. Israel said its aircraft fired on one of the commandeered vehicles and the other exploded at the border crossing. No IDF soldiers were wounded or abducted. In addition to the attack on the Egyptian positions and the infiltration attempt, dozens of rockets and mortar shells were fired at southern Israel Sunday in an intense barrage. There were no casualties in Israel. The rocket and mortar shell assault may have been timed as a distraction, to enable the aborted infiltration. (Arutz-7)

FIVE HUNDRED KILOS OF EXPLOSIVES MEANT FOR ISRAELIS, NOT FENCE: One of the vehicles used in the terrorist attack Sunday night, near a border common to Egypt, Israel, and Gaza, was loaded with ammunition. It exploded at the border crossing into Israel. The second vehicle was able to penetrate Israel. The original plan was to use the explosive truck to carry out a major terror attack in an Israeli town near the crossing. Preceding the truck would have been several suicide bombers, wearing explosive belts. The truck ended up being used to blow a hole in the fence, but the plan for the suicide bombers to explode themselves was still being executed. The suicide bombers entered Israel with the terrorists, who were finally eliminated by the IDF. The Egyptians did not increase their patrols at the border in the aftermath of the attack on the military base. IDF officials received intelligence last Friday than a major border attack was in the works. Israel forwarded the alert to Egyptian authorities, but they failed to act on the information. (INN)

BARAK PRAISES IDF, SHIN BET FOR FOILING ATTACK: Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak praised the IDF and the Shin Bet, Israel’s security agency, for preventing the attempted terror attack near Kerem Shalom on Sunday night. “IDF forces assisted by Shin Bet agents, showed alertness, sharpness and versatility, and thwarted an attack which may have caused many casualties,” said Barak. (INN) Sunday’s thwarted terrorist attack against Israel and the diligence with which the southern borders were protected are answers to prayer.  Continue to intercede on behalf of all security and military officials guarding the country that they will be vigilant and victorious in all emergencies.

EGYPT REACTS TO SUNDAY TERRORIST ASSAULT: Al Qaeda-linked gangs, Bedouin terrorists and drug smugglers, and fanatic Islamists groups from the Gaza Strip have turned the Sinai Desert into a jihad nest, particularly since the latter stages of the Mubarak regime. Egypt paid the price for its lack of control in the area Sunday night, losing 16 men in a well-planned terrorist attack. Former President Hosni Mubarak cooperated closely with Israel on security. He suppressed Islamist movements such as recently elected President Mohammed Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood. On Monday dozens of Egyptians demonstrated in front of the Israeli ambassador's residence in Cairo and demanded relations with Israel be severed following the terror attack Sunday. One demonstrator claimed there was no doubt Israel was behind the hit. Additionally Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood accused the Israeli spy agency Mossad of being behind Sunday's assault. Israel's foreign ministry dismissed the allegation as "nonsense." (Ynet/Reuters)

TERRORISTS AND EGYPT’S NEW PRESIDENT HAVE IDENTICAL AIMS: Former Israeli Ambassador to Egypt Tzvi Mazel said Tuesday that he does not believe the Egyptian government will take effective action against the terrorists who operate in Sinai. "We must remember the person running Egypt today is the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi," he explained. "The Muslim Brotherhood is the group that laid the foundations for today's radical Islam and Islamic terrorism. The Muslim Brotherhood developed a theory that favors a return to 'the good old days' of the prophet Mohammed and use of violence to establish a Muslim empire. Islamic law would be the constitution and then they would make an effort to conquer the world. The terrorists who came to carry out the attack from Sinai were raised upon the Muslim Brotherhood's fanatical theory," he said. "Morsi and the terrorists who carried out the attack have the same ideology and the same goal – to impose Islam on the Middle East and the entire world." (INN)

UK BANK ACCUSED OF $250 BILLION IRAN MONEY LAUNDERING SCHEME: A British bank schemed with the Iranian government to launder $250 billion from 2001 to 2007, leaving the United States' financial system "vulnerable to terrorists," New York's financial regulator charged Monday. State Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky signed an order that requires London-based Standard Chartered Bank to answer his questions following an investigation into "wire stripping," the practice of removing crucial identifiers in financial transactions. The bank conspired with its Iranian clients to route nearly 60,000 different US dollar payments through Standard Chartered's New York branch "after first stripping information from wire transfer messages used to identify sanctioned countries and individuals " according to agency's order. The transactions provided the bank with millions of dollars in fees at a time when such trade was restricted. (AP) “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” 1 Tim 6:10

AHMADINEJAD’S MOST ANTISEMITIC SPEECH YET: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s most recent call for the destruction of the State of Israel is particularly “ominous” in light of Tehran’s continued quest for nuclear capability, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) warned. Addressing ambassadors from Islamic countries, Ahmadinejad said, “Any freedom lover and justice seeker in the world must do its best for the annihilation of the Zionist regime in order to pave the path for the establishment of justice and freedom in the world. It has now been 400 years that a horrendous Zionist clan has been ruling the major world affairs,” Ahmadinejad added, asserting the Zionists are “behind the scenes of the major power circles, in political, media, monetary, and banking organizations in the world.” ADL director Abraham Foxman said while the message itself has been heard before, Ahmadinejad’s words had “more ominous overtones and should be taken seriously as the Iranian regime continues on its march toward a nuclear weapon.” Meanwhile, the latest intelligence information obtained by Israel and four Western countries indicates Iran has made greater progress on developing components for its nuclear weapons program than the West had previously realized. A Western diplomat said the US, Britain, France, Germany and Israel agree on that assessment. (Arutz-7/Ha’aretz) Pray the G-d of Israel would bring His strategy into play to vanquish the growing Iranian nuclear threat over Israel and the entire region.

WHITE HOUSE: ASSAD’S GOVERNMENT IS CRUMBLING: In one of the highest-profile desertions from Damascus, Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Hijab on Monday fled the country. While not part of Assad's inner circle, his departure provides a powerful morale boost to the opposition. US intelligence officials expect pro-Assad and opposition forces to be in the fight for the long haul and they are not predicting a near-term end to the Syrian conflict. The White House alleged the defection of Syria's prime minister showed President Bashar al-Assad's government was crumbling from within. White House spokesman Jay Carney said, “It's clear these defections are reaching the highest levels of the Syrian government and Assad cannot restore his control over the country because the Syrian people will not allow it.” The latest defection “only reinforces that the Assad regime is crumbling from within and that the Syrian people believe Assad's days are numbered,” Carney added. PA’S UN BID MEANS ISRAELI SOVEREIGNTY BID: Likud MK Danny Danon has a response to the Palestinian Authority’s plan to seek United Nations recognition as a state. If the PA seeks statehood unilaterally, Israel must unilaterally annex Judea and Samaria. Past experience with the PA’s UN bids shows there is no need to fear the “political tsunami” predicted by Defense Minister Ehud Barak last time, he said. However, while the PA strategy is not risky, it deserves a “fitting” response, he said. “We need to say clearly that if they want to start a one-sided process, we’ll answer them in their own language.” A unilateral bid for statehood would violate every PA agreement with Israel, he noted. Danon said Israel would have significant support in the US Congress for annexation of Judea and Samaria. More than 60 congressmen have said they would support the move. Israel would face international pressure, he admitted. However, he said, past Israeli leaders faced similar pressures yet prevailed. (Arutz-7)
