JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE June 30, 2011

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Pet 3:9

NO JEWS TO BE ALLOWED ON DELTA-SAUDI AIR LINE FLIGHTS:   Jews and Israelis, or passengers carrying any non-Islamic article of faith, will not be able to fly code-share flights from the US to Saudi Arabia under Delta Air Line's new partnership with Saudi Arabian Airlines that is set to begin in 2012. Earlier this year Delta announced it had struck a deal with the Saudi Arabian airline to join its “SkyTeam” network in 2012 but the details of the deal's implications have only recently been revealed. The kingdom has strict rules for entry. It prohibits anyone with an Israeli stamp in their passport from entering the country, even in transit. Passengers with Jewish sounding names have been denied visas. Citizens of every country are mandated to obtain visas and sponsors required for entry, but Jews cannot obtain them. Moreover, both Jewish and Christian bibles and non-Islamic religious items may be confiscated upon arrival. Since Delta is a US carrier, the new policy has created a firestorm of controversy. Colby M. May, senior counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, a conservative legal group, said his office is trying to determine if the agreement contravenes US law. (INN) According to scripture, this alliance is guaranteed not to further their success: “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you.” Gen 12:3

BARAK SLAMS FLOTILLA ORGANIZERS: NO HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN GAZA:  Defense Minister Ehud Barak slammed on Tuesday the organizers of this year’s planned “Freedom Flotilla” to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, saying “the flotilla intended to go to Gaza is nothing but a provocation.” Barak said the facts and figures are clear and visible - there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Barak also addressed the Israeli government’s decision to order the halt of the flotilla. “We are monitoring the situation continuously, especially due to the realization there may be violent elements on the ship.” Earlier on Tuesday, there were reports the activists taking part in the flotilla are planning to kill soldiers using chemical weapons. (INN) Pray for flotilla organizers to abandon their plans to proceed with another life-threatening attempt to break the Israeli-Egyptian maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip. The Hamas terrorist controlled Gaza Strip continues with ongoing terrorist attacks against the Jewish state.

WHO CAN I TRUST WITH MY DONATIONS?  Many people ask, "Where can I send my financial contributions and be sure they reach the people who need them most?"  As an employee of Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse, I have witnessed since 2006, food, clothing and household goods go out to the poor, often twice a week. Thousands of dollars of hospital equipment have been freely given to old age and care institutions that simply can't afford new beds or other medical necessities. School packs have been prepared annually for thousands of needy children. Additionally, when there have been catastrophes abroad, Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse are among the first to send necessary supplies to alleviate the distress. Your donations are needed and welcomed at www.visionforisrael.com  Make your online donations today. IDF DELIVERS GOODS TO GAZA BUT FLOTILLA LEADER CLAIMS A BLOCKADE: The IDF oversees the shipment of 6,000 tons of food, fuel, merchandise and building material to Gaza daily. But Israel maintains a maritime blockade on Hamas-controlled Gaza to allow the Navy to stop the smuggling of missiles and advanced weapons for the use of Hamas and other terrorist organizations that use Gaza as a launching pad for attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers. The IDF noted that aid from European convoys to Gaza has continuously been transferred overland in an orderly way without the violence that characterized last year’s IHH-backed flotilla. After Navy commandos prevented the ships from sailing to Gaza, the boats were led to the port in Ashdod, where it was discovered the IHH’s Mavi Marmara ship was not carrying any aid at all. The 2010 Gaza flotilla’s five other ships arrived with only 20 truckloads worth of goods and expired medications. Before the ships left ports for Gaza, a flotilla organizer said the real aim was to isolate Israel in the international community. (INN)

MORE EFFECTIVE THAN FLOTILLAS: The European convoy “Miles of Smiles 3” last month arrived at the Rafiah land crossing at the Egyptian border. “The convoy’s ten European human rights organizations transferred 30 tons of medical supplies, 12 ambulances, baby food, and wheelchairs to Gaza by coordinating efforts with the Egyptian Red Crescent,” the IDF stated. It added, “The transfer of goods did not entail violence because the organizers focused on delivering supplies, rather than delegitimizing Israel by provoking violence.” (Arutz-7)

ISRAEL TOURISTS BOYCOTTING TURKEY:   Only 30,000 Israel tourists visited Turkey between January and May of this year, compared with 72,500 the previous year. The sharp decline accelerated in May, when the decrease was more than 60%. Turkey and Israel enjoyed friendly relations until two years ago, when Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided to join international condemnation of Israel for the counter-terrorist Operation Cast Lead campaign against Hamas terrorists. Retired Judge Richard Goldstone, who authored a badly distorted report of Israel for the UN, has since admitted many of his accusations were wrong. Turkish-Israeli relations sank to new depths after the flotilla clash in May 2010, when Turkish members of the terror-linked and Turkish-based IHH group clubbed, shot and kidnapped Israeli Navy commandos who boarded their boat to prevent it from approaching Hamas-controlled Gaza. Nine IHH members were killed in the clash. The angry reaction from Ankara, accompanied by several extremely antisemitic presentations on television, has led many Israelis to look for different countries for vacationing. NETANYAHU TO ABBAS: ACCEPT ISRAEL AS A JEWISH STATE: Israeli PM Netanyahu on Monday implored Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to accept the existence of Israel as a Jewish state, calling it a “basic demand” for achieving peace in the region. “I stood before my people and said I would accept a Palestinian state,” said Netanyahu. “Now President Abbas must stand before his people and say, ‘I accept a Jewish state.’” Netanyahu directly addressed Abbas in this plea, imploring the Palestinian president: “Just say these words - ‘I accept a Jewish state.’ It is a basic demand for peace.” (Ha’aretz) ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” Zech 8:23

POLL: PA ARABS WOULD CHANCE CONFRONTATION IF STATE IS DECLARED: A poll of Israelis and PA Arabs released Tuesday shows half of Israelis believe the chances of the UN recognizing a 23rd Arab state in Judea, Samaria and are low. However, 76% of PA Arabs said that if an Arab state is recognized in September, the PA must move to impose its sovereignty in all of Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem - even at the cost of ensuing conflict. Among the moves the large majority of PA Arabs would expect from their government would be the stationing of PA soldiers in Area C, which according to the Oslo Accords is supposed to be under full Israeli military and political jurisdiction, and the construction of a new airport in the Jordan Valley, near Jericho. The PA army should also be prepared to take control of the Allenby Bridge crossing into Jordan. The PA will make a final decision on whether to seek statehood on Sunday. (INN)

ISRAEL WARNS ASSAD HE IS ON DEATH LIST IF HE ATTACKS: Israel has warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that he will be targeted if he tries to start a war with Israel to take the glare off his brutal suppression of the uprising in his country. The warning was sent through mediators in Turkey following intelligence reports of exceptional movements of Syrian troops and re-location of long-range missiles. Israel last month said there was clear evidence the Syrian regime paid residents to storm the Israeli border at the Golan Heights and engage the army, which killed approximately a dozen Syrian Arabs in clashes. “This is what Assad always does. He's under pressure at home, so he deflects attention,” said Andrew Tabler, a Syria expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. The protest movement in Syria has not subsided. Assad also has not backed off from using brute force to gun down demonstrators, whom the government has labeled as “armed gangs.” (INN)

IRAN TESTING MISSILES WITH NUCLEAR CAPABILITY:  Iran has been carrying out covert ballistic missile tests and rocket launches including testing missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Wednesday. He told parliament the tests were in clear contravention of UN resolution 1929. Iran is carrying out a 10-day military exercise it hopes will warn Israel and the US against any attack. (J.Post)

DUTCH LEGISLATORS VOTE TO BAN KOSHER SLAUGHTER: The Dutch parliament Tuesday overwhelmingly voted to ban kosher slaughter in the country. The bill does not affect the import of kosher meat. However, importing meat will be a major financial burden for observant Jews, because of the high cost. The bill would affect the country’s one million Muslims as well as 50,000 Jews, but reportedly the large majority of Dutch Muslims do not care whether animals are stunned and then slaughtered according to the halal laws of Islam. Jewish law does not allow the practice. The proposal to ban kosher slaughtering reportedly reflects an increasing resentment in the Netherlands of the growing Muslim community. None the less, Dutch Jews are beginning to wonder what's coming next after the Netherlands lower parliament voted Tuesday to approve a ban on ritual slaughter of animals for kosher and halal meat. According to Netherlands Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, many Jews have called to ask what the future holds, given the fact that such a law could pass. He said, “Old people are scared, and young people who are just married are calling me to ask if they should stay here. Today it is the shechita and tomorrow, what? Circumcision? People are afraid,” Jacobs said. (Reuters) Intercede for the wisdom and safety of Dutch Jewry. Pray many will be motivated to move to Israel.

ISRAEL SCHOLARS SAY BIBLICAL BOX IS GENUINE: Israeli scholars have confirmed the authenticity of a 2,000-year-old burial box bearing the name of a relative of the high priest Caiaphas of the New Testament. The ossuary bears an inscription with the name “Miriam daughter of Yeshua son of Caiaphas, priest of Maaziah from Beth Imri.” An ossuary is a stone chest used to store bones. Caiaphas was a temple priest and an adversary of Yeshua. He played a key role in his crucifixion. The IAA said Wednesday that microscopic tests have confirmed the inscription is "genuine and ancient." (AP)
